Also, if "we" all had to go back to someplace/somewhere else, where would YOU go? Because, by your own admission, America SURELY isn't your ancestral home!
For the most part, what you say is accurate, in that the "African-Americans" are not the only nation that has suffered slavery, and that we should be "Americans" and "enjoy" being the same, and so on, and so on.
I would like to clarify a few things though, because, from what you've said, and how it could be misunderstood by most "African-Americans" who don't know any better.
First, "we", (I am of African descent, but born in America) were not "brought" from anywhere, unlike your ancestors, and most immigrants, now and then. "We", were always here, in that we can claim ancestry and inhabitation in "America", over 10,000 years! If you do the research, you would/will find that, "African-Americans" have a longer ancestral title to America, than the so-called "white" (i.e. European) people do!!! Just the truth!
Second, "we" as a people, would NEVER have treated ANY other nation or people the way that you and your forefathers have, (not that you've owned slaves or been an outright racist), but, well, you know the history of racism in this country.
Posit this. How civilized is a nation/people, who have to create laws, to force their own citizens, to respect another human/nation/people as equals, or at least entitled to the same blessings of liberty, freedom, justice, etc., that you all claim???
There would have been NO need for civil rights legislation, if "white" people were civilized, because it would be understood, that all under God's creation, are free to enjoy the same birthrights as other American citizens. So, the problem, is two-fold.
One, so-called "white" (European) individuals need to stop denying the injustice, cruelty, and economic deprivation and commercial fraud they perpetuated and forced upon those of African (Moorish) descent, and "pay up"! Settle all debts and old business, and then, we can move forward.
Second, "African-Americans" need to stop looking to the Europeans (so-called white) people to "help" them to be a Nation of people of themselves, and, like someone alluded to in an earlier post, stop displaying those behaviours, attributes, and attitudes that delude to slavery, and learn to love instead of hate!
I think with this in mind, we can begin to truly "heal the wounds"!
Rush is not an ass, he's a talk show host. Same as Joe, Warren, or Rev.Al. I'm a 44 year old truck driver. I'm not a far right wing loon. All I listen to for 14 to 15 hours a day is talk raido. I've noticed something,the power seems to both encourage and promote racism. I get the civil rights movement, what I dont get is how blacks keep trying to blame whites for their current problems. You have Warren saying he's a educated ninja code word for nigger. Why in this P.C. world that welive in do black people think they deserve a free pass on being to say anything they want. Well it is time for me to refresh this topic. Obviously I was on the right path. Mr. Steele called Rushass an entertainer, as have others. Then Steele, who seems like a fine guy but honestly a bit of a wimp for immediately saying "sorry" to Rushass. Look. The show "the view"...entertainment. Don Imus, Chris Matthews, most everything on Fox News, that Hanity guy...entertainment. Joe, I agree with you, oh say, about 75% of the time. You don't get this. And neither does the white house. Giving him credibility by commenting on him. Stupid. The Right is far better at propaganda crap than the left or the middle. But, folks, people tune in to be entertained. Geez, if you don't get it, it will help you understand why they dominate the airwaves. Well, I was the first to nail this. I was right.
Oh I am not frustrated. Rush is an entertainer - but he makes his money appealing to those who cannot think for themselves. Obama made a mistake for even engaging him. Remember, Colin Powell did the same a few months ago. It gives him way too much attention. He loves it. That being said...regarding the stimulus bill....sometimes I think the democratics just don't have a clue. Why would they put that contraceptive money in the budget? That is just throwing red meat at the wackos (yes wackos). I understand what the intent of that provision was, but it got predictably played in the media....and distracted from an otherwise pretty good bill. Democratics need to learn how to use the power they now have - they must be using the same PR agency as the bank that bought the $50mm dollar jet, or the bank that refused to comment on how the bailout money was spent. Rush's audience are a bunch of illiterates who are able to read the message of hate in everything limbaugh says. I hope Mr. Madison reads these posts. I can't call into the show because I am already at work when he is broadcasting, and calls to a radio show does not work for me, but I can listen. Regarding today's show and Rush Limbaugh's comments about "I want him to fail". I voted for Obama. I want him to help take the country out of our incredible mess. I think he can. Years ago I listened to Rush (not for very long). I stopped, as I recognized what he was all about. As to his comments - I do not think he was saying "I want Obama to fail and the Country to go to hell". I think a carefull reading of what he said was that he hopes his "policies" fail - which comes as no suprise from him. What did you expect? Here's the deal...Rush is an entertainer. People who listen to him fall into 2 categories - those who like to hear his nonsense for entertainment purposes, and those who really think he is some source of wisdom. I suspect that his large audience is divided about 50/50 into those groups. So my perspective is, he is an ass who is making a fortune off the backs of those who can't think for themselves. He is an entertainer who is laughing all the way to the bank. When people realize this and stop listening to him , we all will be better off. But that day is not coming. He has just started. He has 4 years of fresh meet in front of him - and he has to be giddy at the riches that will come his way from the sneaky hate he will leak.
