Joe, I enjoy your show and the information you provide. However, this morning your information regarding the role African Americans in WW1 was inaccurate.. First, you stated the 396th Division fought with the French.. There was no 396th...but 369th infantry REGiment known as the Harlem Hell Fighters and also known as the "Black Rattlers" which was assigned to 161st French Division
. You also listed the 371, 372 Divisions as the only African American DIVISIONS. These were not divisions but regiments. There were many African American regiments and they were not only laborers. They fought and died in combat. A platoon of the 365th regiment was ordered to defend the hilltop of Xon Hill and "Remain to the Last Man". I suggest you read "The Lost Battalions, by Richard Slotkin" which documents a TRUE picture of the African Americans in the Great War.
The World War 1 Museum is located in Kansas City Missouri and has an excellent collection of the role of the African American. It is the ONLY museum in the country dedicated solely to World War 1.
The information you provided is a distorted and inaccurate and discredits the service of these great soldiers. We have the role of African Americans discredited AGAIN by your source of information.
You mentioned your grandfather served in the Great War and I am sure you wish to give accurate information regarding his place in history. My father also served in WW1.
